Russia bans iPhones! Government employees ordered to use Android

 


Economic newspaper of Russia, march 20 President of the Russian Federation, Russia has banned the use of iPhones. Presidential elections are going to be held in Russia next year i.e. in 2024. All government officials participating in this election are prohibited from using iPhone. According to the reports coming out, Russian officials are apprehensive that the use of iPhones can be used by Western countries in an intelligence way to interfere in the elections. Officials participating in the presidential election have been asked to shift to alternative devices i.e. Android phones by April 1. 


According to the report, this policy was communicated to the staff at a seminar held outside on March 3, 2023. One of the attendees came to the newspaper and said, "iPhone is dead". 

Ban on use of iPhones

According to the report of the Russian newspaper Kommarsant, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration has announced this at a seminar organized by the government. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told that the smartphone should not be used for official business. The spokesperson was referring to the iPhones of the American company Apple. According to the report of the Russian Leading daily The Moscow Times, this announcement from the Kremlin was the final word in the conversation going on for the last few weeks. A related source says that the Kremlin has advised officials participating in the election process to buy Android smartphones. They have asked all iPhone users to shift to Android devices. Also, it has also hinted that iPhones will soon be banned in the country and users will be asked to shift to Chinese and Russian devices.


New OS developed

The Russian government is very confident about Aurora, a mobile operating system that is an alternative to iOS and Android. It has been developed by the telecom company Rostelecom there. Russia has also prohibited official use of technology from many western countries such as the video conferencing platform Zoom. Since the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine that started last year, many American technology companies have closed their offices in Russia.
